Overview

TV screen technologies have evolved a lot since the beginning of TVs and the entertainment industry. People have come up with many solutions for bringing content closer and closer to the audience. There used to be CRT technology, which creates a beam of the ray to make artificial light and project to the audience. There used to be a much more advanced LCD, which shines a white light beam through panels to create colors. The hottest topic in the market of TVs right now is OLED. OLED screens are beautiful, produce real colors, and are getting relatively cheaper and cheaper everyday. In this article, we will recommend you, our beloved audience, the best OLED TVs you can buy off Amazon.

Types of OLED TVs

1. What is OLED?

These are the display technologies existed at this moment, and how those are different from OLED:

  • CRT TVs (Cathode Ray Tube)

CRT is knobby, big, which works just like a projector in a short range. The beam was created by a tube, shining through various lenses, before touching the screen - the humans’ eyes. The CRT is infamous for the ulgy appearance, electricity high usage, but when it was introduced for the first time, it was famous for displaying accurate colors.

  • The LCD TVs (Liquid Crystal Display)

Instead of creating the colors in the tube, LCD displays create colors by filtering a source of pure white light using panels that represent three most basic red, blee, and green. Therefore, LCD displays are much smaller, and much thinner than the traditional CRT. LCD had been the king of display technologies for nearly two decades before the position was taken by LED, OLED, and other extensions of the traditional LCD.

  • The OLED TVs (Organic Light Emitting Diode)

OLED creates images by forming them pixel by pixel. Every pixel in an OLED display is an independent diode that produces lights. When the pixel displays a color, say red, the diode at that position produces red; otherwise, it turns itself off. OLED is an ideal way to save energy while producing much better images. The OLED is complimented for its energy-saving design, great contrast ratio, and the true black color. I love the true black color. Due to its little energy consumption, I could make a digital clock on my wall featuring an OLED display.

2. Types of OLED TV

2.1 Resolution

The main difference among OLED TVs is the resolution of the screen because that is obvious that OLED TVs have OLED displays. Here are a few popular resolutions:

  • HDTV

Since the beginning of OLED TVs, they make OLED TVs out of this resolution. At the time of writing, brands don’t put their efforts into making these anymore, because there’s more important things to care about such as 4K or 8K. You can still buy an HD TV with OLED display, but still, it’s hard to find.

  • Ultra HD TVs

4K is not yet the most popular resolution for content; however, 4K is now the most popular resolution for new TVs. TVs, when bought, aren’t expected for current content, but for content in a few years or even a decade. That’s why all the brands’ efforts are being focused into 4K. Hence, 4K TVs are now even cheaper than their HD counterparts. This is worth Sony A8H 55 Inch TV: BRAVIA 4K

  • 8K TVs

The most popular and affordable 8K TVs on the market aren’t made of OLED. An 8K TV made of OLED is expensive; I’m talking about several tens of thousands of dollars. Sony Z8H 85 Inch TV model from Sony which is 8K was released in 2019 and is now “the cheapest OLED 8K”, but you still had better be sure to check the price first.

2.2 HDR

HDR is a whole new way to represent colors on screen. It extends the traditional 3-byte RGB to a much wider gamut, to make the image much brighter and color-richer.

  • TVs with HDR: TVs are capable of reading and displaying the definition of HDR. Although, some of them do the job perfectly while some are terrible at the jobs. This is one that we love Sony X800H 43 Inch TV: 4K Ultra HD with HDR
  • TVs without HDR: TVs that are made for low-demand markets sometimes don’t come with HDR. That should not spark any problems at the moment; however, it’s gonna irritate you in the future when everyone has it.

2.3 Dolby technologies

Dolby technologies are taking over TVs, and they’re making the way to high-quality TVs all the way down to low-budget TVs

  • Dolby Atmos: The sound technology intended to make the sound richer, clearer with the best experience ever. This is usually the high-quality feature of TVs trending on the market. This is one LG C9 Series Smart OLED TV - 55" 4K Ultra HD with Alexa Built-in
  • Dolby Vision: Dolby Vision is a breakthrough intended for viewing experience. It’s another version of HDR and other image-sharpening and beautifying techniques.

Buying Guides

1. The size of your TV

Studies show that 95% of people want a bigger screen on their phones, their TVs, and even their walls. We divide the range of TV sizes into multiple groups:

  • The TVs that are less than 55 inches large: made for small rooms with one or two people watching. The VESA size for this is usually 200x200, making it possible to mount easily. Check this gallery version from LG LG OLED55GXPUA Alexa Built-In GX Series 55" Gallery Design
  • TV from 55 inches to 80 inches: made to fit every room, and it now is the most common size of new TVs. One great pick from ours for you with this size is Sony XBR-77A9G 77 Inch TV: MASTER Series BRAVIA OLED 4K Ultra HD Smart TV with HDR and Alexa Compatibility so remember to check that out
  • TVs that are bigger than 80 inches: This fits someone with a big house and a big wall who might want to make their TV a picture on their wall. In case you’re that guy, please check Sony X900H 85-inch TV. With this size, and at this moment, you can hardly get an 8K TV because of their prices. OLED 8K 85-inch TV from Sony could cost you more than 10000$ for a single TV.

2. Where to put your TV

Putting your TV where everyone can see while still maintaining the styles of the house is a cool thing to do. Wherever you decide to put it, there’s solutions for you:

  • Put it on the table: it comes to your needs that you have to own a table that’s wider than the TV’s width. Plus, putting the TV on the table also increases the risk of someone accidentally break the TV
  • Hang it on the wall: this is the most common solution right now. All you need is a wall mount, a screwdriver, and you’ll be all set.

3. Additional features

OLED TVs are flagships. Therefore, they usually come with flagship features:

  • HDR support: HDR - High Dynamic Range produces colors that are much richer and brighter than the normal color definition
  • Gaming mode: A TV that is compatible with games has a high refresh rate, faster connections, and better contrast ratio
  • AI integration and voice control: Alexa and Google Assistant are the most popular AI engines to work with TVs. Siri is also available, but Apple doesn’t seem to care about spreading the impact of its AI assistant.
  • Wi-Fi and Ethernet: Assist you when you want to stream content over the Internet.

The best OLED TVs

1. LG OLEDCX series

LG OLEDCX series is the best lineup of LG this year. The model is loved by customers because it features a very cool and dark black design, which is perfect for your modern gaming or movie room. The native refresh rate is 120Hz, in the purpose of reducing lags in games provided by NVIDIA technologies.

The TV is powered by the Alpha 9 Gen 3 AI Processor 4K, doing the work of upscaling images and operating top-notch features such as AI PICTURE PRO and AI SOUND PRO. WebOS is installed by default. WebOS doesn’t get to be feature-rich like Android, so that should be a minor disadvantage of the TV

  • Resolution: 4K
  • 120 Hz
  • Made for Gamers
  • OLED Display
  • WebOS with Magic Remote

2. LG OLEDGX series

The LG OLEDGX series is a more luxurious and greater version of the GX version. They differ by only the letter C and G. The G letter stands for Gallery, the theme for the TV. The Gallery Design is the trademark of LG, making the TV bezel-less and impossibly thin.

You can even see the gap or notice the bezel at all until you grab a telescope  at a look at every single pixel. This TV is made to take the spotlight in your room even if it's not turned on. For what’s inside the TV, apart from CX series’ features, the LG OLEDGX comes with OLED MOTION PRO trademarked by LG, and the hands-free voice control. Just say “Hi, LG” and all done.

  • Resolution: 4K OLED 120 Hz
  • “Hi, LG” voice recognition
  • Connections: 4 x HDMI 2.1; 3 x USB 2.0; 1 x RF; 1 x AV; 1 x Ethernet; Wifi and Bluetooth
  • Magic Remote

3. Sony X900H series

Sony X900H OLED TV is the card we see from Sony. It’s playing an important role in sellings you Sony, so Sony always tries to improve it with everything they can. It features all the latest from Sony. Sony X900H OLED TV has an OLED display with 4K resolution and powered by a 4K HDR Processor X1. This processor runs an algorithm called X-reality PRO, which upscales your image no matter from what resolution to 4K or near 4K for the best viewing experience. The wireless connection and HDMI ports are available, but sadly not the Ethernet.

The X900H can support whatever assistant it wants. Sony X900H OLED TV is installed with Android TV operating system with BOTH Google Assistant and Alexa. How great and magical is that! Siri is not available because I don’t think Apple would agree to put Siri on its competitors’ TVs.

  • Resolution: 4K.
  • Size: 55 - 85 inches.
  • OLED display.
  • Best features from Sony, including Gaming Integration.

4. Sony Z8H 8K TV and LG Signature

Sony and LG might be the first ones to make commercial 8K TVs. Sony and LG both released their own version of 8K TVs to join the competition with QLED by Samsung. LG is doing great on the market with the NanoCell 8K. Therefore, the brand is now dropping the LG Signature. Sony, on the other hand, released the Sony Z8H 85 Inch TV and doesn’t seem to care about QLED or NanoCell. Therefore, we can predict that Sony will stick to OLED for a long time.

Both LG Signature and Sony Z8H 85 Inch TV have stunningly beautiful screen resolution packed with all the latest features in time of introduction. The prices for both models are high, while the price of LG Signature is nearly as triple as the price of  Sony Z8H 85 Inch. The models are not for everyday people. But these are the only two versions that have 8K OLED displays. Because OLED is expensive on every resolution, let alone 8K.

  • Resolution: 8K.
  • Size is bigger than 80 inches because it’s hard to make it smaller with OLED.
  • Stunning, again, stunning images.
  • Flagship features from brands.
  • Going out of stock soon to replace newer, more affordable generations.

FAQs

1. Can I view content with lower resolution than my TV’s?

Yes. A TV is not made for a year or two. It’s made to last for more than 3-5 years on your desk or your wall. Therefore, all the 8K or 4K TVs now include an upscaler. Which transforms the content from lower resolutions to the accordingly.

2. How do I mount my TV to the wall?

Follow these steps to mount TV to the wall:

  • Check the wall to make sure it’s safe to drill
  • Take a look at the back of your TV and mark the size on the wall
  • Buy a wall mount that fits those measurements
  • Use a screwdriver to certainize the item

3. What should I buy for the best gaming experience?

For the best gaming experience, we recommend two models, one from Sony, and one from LG:

  • Sony X900H 85-inch TV: This version is made to work perfectly with PlayStation, so if you’ve already owned a PlayStation, be sure to add it to your cart.
  • LG OLEDCX series is made for gaming with a high refresh rate and gaming booster. The model is newer and more up-to-date than the version from Sony.

4. Does the TV usually get hot?

If your TV is smoking hot for a long time, there must be problems. That’s the fact because normal TVs would not cost over 80$ in electricity for a year. The heat produced by that amount of money should not be much. Therefore, please check with the technical center for a solution.

5. Can I install apps on my TV?

Yes. TVs nowadays run modern operating systems which allow users to install apps from online stores, to be specific, LG Content Store for WebOS in LG TVs, and Google Play for Android OS for Sony TVs. The Google Play is much bigger than LG’s, so you need to take that into consideration when buying your TV.

Final Thoughts

Currently, the OLED display is now only adopted by Sony and LG. Samsung doesn’t seem to care because they’ve got QLED. However, OLED is the future and there’s nothing that can stop it. Below are my final picks for the best OLED TVs

The TV market is evolving very fast in comparison with others; this article is up-to-date at the time of writing but it can be outdated very soon, so be sure to check out the latest reviews and recommendations of the best OLED TVs
